India and

for Indian Industry :
NEW DELHI - The Confideration of Indian Industry (CII)
is organizing “Seminar on Intellectual Property
Rights for Indian Industry” in association with
Japan Institute of Invention & Innovation (JIII)
in two locations in India; in New Delhi on November
23, and Sahar, Andheri, Mumbai on November 25, 2005.
In the rapidly
changing global business scenario, Indian industry is
faced with a number of challenges. The key challenge
is how to become competitive in both the global and
local market and sustain competitiveness. Intellectual
Property Rights (IPRs) is one of the key tools to achieve
competitiveness and wealth creation for the Indian industry.
India has recently
realized a milestone achievement by passing the Patent
(Amendment) Bill, 2005 in March, 2005 for keeping its
promise to implement Patent protection in India.
On the other hand,
Japan has contributed a lot to India’s socio-economic
development. Japan Inc. has landed in India covering
a wide spectrum including chemicals, oil refining, electronics,
automobiles, industrial machinery and metallurgy and
now increasingly the knowledge-based sector. Indian
companies in Information Technology (HCL, NIIT, Satyam,
Wipro, TCS, Hughes etc.), Auto sector (Maruti, TVS,
Hero, Kinetic etc), Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, Food
Processing and other sectors have also established their
offices / factories in Japan.
A press release
by CII stated that with these developments in the Indo-Japan
trade relationship, and both India & Japan being
signatory to WTO-TRIPS Agreement, it becomes significant
to organize Seminar/ Training Program on such an important
subject of Intellectual Property Rights.
The key objectives
of the Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights would
be to:
• focus
on the Economic and Commercial value of IPRs in industry
• focus on the various implications of IPRs on
specific sectors
• share experiences of IPRs between India and
Japan.
